It’s been a little over a year since the announcement of Silent Hills, a ground-breaking horror video game project by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro. As if the games’ cancellation wasn’t heartbreaking enough, famed director, del Toro just unveiled on Twitter that horror manga legend, Junji Ito was also on board.

Junji Ito is most famous for his disturbing, mutilated or mashed-up creatures, as the following illustration shows:
Now that we know Ito was involved in Silent Hills, his influence is becoming more clear, particularly in this concept movie from the 2014 Tokyo Game Show. Study the illustration above, then watch the video to see what I mean:

Though Silent Hills may be cancelled, it’s always possible that Hideo Kojima, Guillermo del Toro and Junji Ito could collaborate on an equally frightening video game. Time will tell, but for now, this news comes as salt in an already aching wound for Silent Hill fans.
